Hello! I'm Emily Paszkowski, Treasurer on the Board of Still I Run. I first learned about SIR in 2020 when Sasha was awarded the Grand Rapids Business Journal's 40 Under 40, and I immediately felt I had to be involved. As luck would have it, she was searching to develop the first Board shortly after, and I jumped at the chance. This group has given voice to something that I've been so thankful for - making mental health something we can talk about without shame or worry, and how impactful running can be in supporting our mental health. I know I feel more positive and less stressed when I make exercise and running in particular, a core part of my routine. At the start of the pandemic I really struggled with staying at home, not seeing people, and doing less. Many times, running was the only thing I could look forward to because it gave me a sense of freedom and normalcy. On those runs where no one was outside, I reflected on how grateful I was that I could do this, because so many could not, or hadn't even thought about it. I knew the impact we could make by sharing the message of the importance of physical activity as a tool in the tool box for managing mental health, and I wanted to be a part of it. On a personal note, I love the half marathon distance, and have learned how much fun sprinting can be, so have transitioned to training for a 5k during the "off season". I hope to break 25:00 minutes in my 5k someday soon!
